So far we have had a really good time. <br />
<div style="text-align: left;">

Book Review</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<i>Confessions of a Latter-Day Virgin</i> Author Nicole Hardy</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Living
in Salt Lake City Utah, is an experience when you are not LDS. You are in the minority in everything
that you do. I have found juxtaposition
however. I grew up in a town in
another State where there was a fair amount of Mormons and it should be said I
liked to hang out with them. I
liked their ideals their way of doing things and the lack of pressure to have
sex, do drugs, or drink alcohol. I did still have to worry about if I had the
right clothes, watched the right shows said the right thing. I knew when I hung
out with those kids I could be myself. But what I felt would hurt me I didn’t
need to worry about.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
When
you are a Mormon in high school in Redmond Washington you go to Seminary at 6
am Monday through Friday. Then you
continue and go to class like the entire rest of the school. When you go to Seminary in Utah it is a
regular class, during the regular school day it is just in the Seminary
building that is on the school grounds.
I understand the reasoning for this but I also am aware there is more
than one way to skin a cat.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
One
of the friends that I had in Junior High and High School has written a book and
I have been very aware of the procedure via Facebook. She was one of my Mormon friends, and I also thought her
brother was very cute and I enjoyed both of their companies. The book that she wrote is called<i> Confessions of a Latter-Day Virgin. </i>It
is a memoir of her life and how being a latter day saint molded her life and
some of the decisions that she needed to make. It explains how these decisions did not come quickly they
took many years. There were many
people involved (whether they were aware of it or not) in the decisions that
she made and she explains this, the positives and negatives of it all. I need to clarify she does not place
blame she explains the details and why things are the way that they are. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I LOVED THIS BOOK.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I
admit I started reading it hoping to get gossip, read a name that I knew but it
ended up being so much more than that.
I could put myself in the situations learn from her experiences. I was able to see that not everyone
NEEDS to get married. They can be
happy living, they don’t need to have a partner and not all families consist of
2.5 children and a dog and a mortgage.
This book taught me that not all decisions have to be made in my
model. People have their reasons
for doing things I don’t need to feel sorry for them, berate why they are doing
something, and assume that what they are doing is wrong. My way may not be the best way. I am also able to realize it is not
polite to ask so when are you going to have kids who have you been dating. I should ask people about themselves,
have interests in them and not whom they are with.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I
am really hoping that the Latter Day Saints will be able to read this book and
see that their way may not be the best way. Like Nicole’s mother sees. The system is faulted and may not need to go so black and
white. There is a gray area and
many fall into that. I do believe
that the LDS church has many positives.
I also see many negatives I can hope that this book will open peoples
eyes so they are aware their way isn’t the only highway there are many roads
and they are not all wrong.</div>
<div align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
Excellent job Nicole
Hardy I am proud to say I know you.</div>

There are so many people that I think need and should read this book. But will they? They would realize that they are not alone and they are not struggling with something no one else understands. It is a memoir in one woman’s life but it crosses so many lines that you can make it work for your story, but it is hers, and it is beautiful and heart warming. Thank you Nicole for writing something so close to the heart. It is out there and now everyone knows why you do what you do and made the decisions that you did. I am proud of this writing and can’t wait to read what else you have.<br />

<br />
I volunteered to go down to The Harmon's Store at City Creek to help Bob and Randy deliver their check to the MS Society. Last night I wasn't feeling up to it. I realized that we couldn't take the train like I wanted it would have cost us $36 since the group pass is not sold until 10 am and we needed to be downtown at 9:30 am. <br />
<br />
I had the shirts all divvied up last week. I was wearing the "I have MS shirt", Clark was in a "Heidi's heroes" T-shirt, Tom was in the 'MS bike ride' t-shirt, and brady had on the "spokes jersey" Since his lemonade stand made some donations to my team. <br />
<br />
We were all dressed and waiting for Clark to get home from some of his errands. I had wanted to leave at 8:15am, Clark knew this. It is 7:45am, I go out to get the car ready. I get the rack on no problem and then go to pull out my bike. Flat tire, crap. I had gone for a ride with Clark Wednesday and ridden over one weed that I shouldn't have. I was able to get the goat head out of my front tire, apparently I missed the back tire. I tried to pump it up and it went flat again. Double crap. Karma was trying to tell me something. It is now 8:30.<br />
<br />
Clark comes home and I am fuming to say the least. I proceed to tell him I don't want to go. Maybe we can go without the bikes. He looks at me after a ten minute rant, and says<br />
"we are going to go, we are going to bring the bikes, you are doing this wearing that shirt for all the people that can't ride their bikes and be out there, you are there to support them like they supported you during the ride, we are going."<br />
<br />
With tears in my eyes I shake my head yes and watch him as he takes my tire off my bike and fixes it.<br />
<br />
The car gets loaded the boys get seated and we make it to Harmon's at 9:25am.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I am very glad that we went even if we weren't on the Harmon's team and we had our Mountain bikes. It felt good.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Thank You Honey.</div>

I would love to finish this bag before I start tutoring for the year. It does feel a little daunting though I have to knit 74 inches of 33 stitches so it goes fast but it is going to take some time...<br />
The boys are off at their friends houses and I am watching Dr. Who and blogging of course. I hope you are having a fun day as well.<br />
<br />
Oh and I wanted to share, I found from a friend on FB a webpage that allows kids to do some programming for computers. It is really fun I will try to figure out how to share some on here. The webpage is called <a href="http://scratch.mit.edu/">scratch</a> I even made my own to get the kids interested. Enjoy if you want to. :)<br />

Well it was actually a few weeks ago but we have had a busy month.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hPoldgRVIxU/UfnEFV6hkiI/AAAAAAAAA8A/zDFy7zLJ_vg/s1600/IMG_3942.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hPoldgRVIxU/UfnEFV6hkiI/AAAAAAAAA8A/zDFy7zLJ_vg/s200/IMG_3942.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hH1CzrGNH0Q/UfnEPrLYwDI/AAAAAAAAA8I/D8OpyyJKvkE/s1600/IMG_3943.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="150" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hH1CzrGNH0Q/UfnEPrLYwDI/AAAAAAAAA8I/D8OpyyJKvkE/s200/IMG_3943.JPG" title="" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
I was able to participate in the Harmon's Best Dam Bike Ride. Not only that but we had a team of five and raised over $3000.00. My team-mates made it so much easier I am so glad they stayed with me. Lori was my pusher and kept me going and Aunt Betsy was my tail she would announce when other cars and bikes were coming from behind me. <br />
<br />
It was suppose to be 103 the day of the race luckily we had a cloud cover so it made it so much nicer.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NqEtpoU6nVQ/UfnE9QJsspI/AAAAAAAAA8U/QIYEo0OVea8/s1600/1013068_10201250813339802_1917938702_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NqEtpoU6nVQ/UfnE9QJsspI/AAAAAAAAA8U/QIYEo0OVea8/s320/1013068_10201250813339802_1917938702_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: red;">Aunt Betsy and Lori and Me</span></div>
<br />
I rode the 45 mile this year and I am shooting for 2 days of forty miles next year!! Aunt Betsy was able to do both and Kristina did 75 miles the first day and 70 the second!! She also got me a little discouraged she passed me after riding 72 miles and eating lunch. Aarrgh I could have kicked her off her bike. :)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QFry9m1XDuE/UfnGezeNZ4I/AAAAAAAAA8k/djKmtsFbGLk/s1600/IMG_3950.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QFry9m1XDuE/UfnGezeNZ4I/AAAAAAAAA8k/djKmtsFbGLk/s320/IMG_3950.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: red;">Kristina and her hubby Brian who joined her the second day</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
What was so fun this weekend was the support that I received from everyone on the ride. I had a jersey that read "I ride with MS", because of that everyone would give me encouraging words and tell me to keep it up. Oh I am so grateful for those fun words they really did help me get through the race. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
What also helped was knowing that I had support from my sponsors people that I didn't even solicit gave me donations. It was so nice to see the emails saying there was donation in my name!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I really did enjoy the race and the time I had with the girls. My Aunt Betsy has done the ride for many years she does have others that are impacted by MS as well. When I decided to make a team I told her I would not be offended if she didn't want to join me I just wanted to give her the option. She decided to join me and I am so glad that she did. We had a campsite together and the boys and Clark joined me the first night.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9tMpJOiw2ec/UfnJik_IVCI/AAAAAAAAA80/0vNPiudwUh4/s1600/IMG_3933.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9tMpJOiw2ec/UfnJik_IVCI/AAAAAAAAA80/0vNPiudwUh4/s320/IMG_3933.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
There was an excellent irrigation ditch that the boys were able to float down. Which was good because it was hot and they had an awesome time and met lots of other kids too. It was shallow enough that I didn't worry about them drowning. Woohoo. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
My moms cousins from Hawaii happen to be in Logan visiting their daughter and were able to come down and join us for s'mores one of the nights. The boys left on friday so I was able to relax and get ready for the ride on saturday. It was PERFECT.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Aunt Betsy and Lori came on friday night we chatted the night away and got a good night sleep for the early morning Saturday.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
On Sunday I was able to wish my teammates a good ride and then pack up my campsite and head to the Alpine Church for the end of the service. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: orange;">The Perfect Weekend!! Thank you for supporting me!!</span></div>

We couldn't have had more fun!!!!<br />
<div>
We surprised the boys and took them to Disneyland and Legoland California.</div>
<div>
I was nervous Clark wouldn't like it but he said he did.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We were able to enjoy cousins in Moses Lake and cousin in Seattle. Saw movies and went on a fun Ferry ride. Oh and did I mention the weather in Seattle never got over 85 degrees! Much better than today at home it is 102 ugh.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AdNAWdas1k8/UfmVjx8scMI/AAAAAAAAA7A/5l8D9nYIGK8/s1600/IMG_3965.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AdNAWdas1k8/UfmVjx8scMI/AAAAAAAAA7A/5l8D9nYIGK8/s1600/IMG_3965.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: red;">Yes they were a little confused but t. figured it out</span></div>
Disney vacation started with a treasure hunt around Alderwood mall. The boys finally figured out all of their clues and we left the next morning!!!<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DOooVHCL0ok/UfmbKRQYbwI/AAAAAAAAA7g/LdHtx82RD7o/s1600/IMG_3981.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DOooVHCL0ok/UfmbKRQYbwI/AAAAAAAAA7g/LdHtx82RD7o/s1600/IMG_3981.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: red;">This is the Gordon-Taylor clan headed to orange county via san francisco.</span></div>
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7CfRJOMmixo/UfmUwhBzdzI/AAAAAAAAA60/gGj7faeBrCQ/s1600/IMG_3993.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7CfRJOMmixo/UfmUwhBzdzI/AAAAAAAAA60/gGj7faeBrCQ/s1600/IMG_3993.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: red;">This was T. and I when we first got to the hotel and yes He is being a good sport and is an inch taller than me.</span></div>
The Disneyland Hotel had a small room but the amenities were incredible. We were able to get into the parks at 7am everyone else could come in at 8am. Oh so worth it. We were able to get into all of the fun rides before everyone else. <br />
<br />
We would run around the park until breakfast stop and eat why the lines filled up. By the time they would taper off we would be putting away our trays and go out and enjoy more of the day. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uMDCihODYdA/UfmW-zj0_RI/AAAAAAAAA7Q/ai2Ywqzs0FE/s1600/IMG_4023.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uMDCihODYdA/UfmW-zj0_RI/AAAAAAAAA7Q/ai2Ywqzs0FE/s1600/IMG_4023.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: red;">Waiting in line to get in the cars at radiator springs</span></div>
<br />
Perfect scenario. It never got vey hot it was warm but not Hot. I also implemented the hankerchief on the wrist cool down method. It worked like a charm. We would play with the family until after lunch and then go off on our own. When you go on vacation with family everyone gets pulled in different directions so this worked well for our sanity and kept the peace with the family. Well at least it did on our end. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JbBWqOmLXTI/UfmfLhzN6iI/AAAAAAAAA7w/9G1OJTmSXWY/s1600/558482_10151791803775421_951245012_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JbBWqOmLXTI/UfmfLhzN6iI/AAAAAAAAA7w/9G1OJTmSXWY/s1600/558482_10151791803775421_951245012_n.jpg" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Watching the Color of the world was awesome the colors and the water displays were fun it does make for a long day so I highly suggest a nap around four, wake up when the temperature starts to drop.<br />

Woohoo bonus for me. Now I have way more project than I want but it will be fun the yarn is gorgeous.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6nUEW-Rncjw/Ue2reASxVeI/AAAAAAAAA6k/1BnmG-C3n1o/s1600/9344298917_eecda6865e_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6nUEW-Rncjw/Ue2reASxVeI/AAAAAAAAA6k/1BnmG-C3n1o/s1600/9344298917_eecda6865e_o.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The fun part about this is I was also able to help Aunt Carla finish a project. I had gotten a pattern for a really cute hat from her and the brim was a bit tricky I was able to help her with the construction of her brim and showed her the fun way to use the foam sheets instead of the cool whip lid. Now my cousin also has a really cute hat.</div>

<br />
We had so much fun out in the new to us Xterra. We drove down to Bountiful and headed up the mountain. We figured out where everyone goes to ride on their ATV. The road was bumpy and rutted my hubby loved it. We did realize we would not want to be there in a wind storm or rain storm though. SLIPPERY. We were able to see some snow banks still left every time jake ran into one he would pee, Silly dog. I was able to find 6 geocaches excellent there were two we didn't find but I think I was getting hungry. Have a fun summer we know where we are going the next time there is an inversion.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17327534103562633994noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15308254.post-42796585693640478192013-06-04T16:01:00.000-06:002013-06-04T16:01:05.665-06:00baring your soulSo it is very hard to bare your soul and then not have anyone respond. I feel that way right now. UGH.<br />
<br />
This is why...<br />
<br />

<span style="font-family: 'comic sans ms', sans-serif;">HOWDI ALL,</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;">
<span style="font-family: 'comic sans ms', sans-serif;">Since I was diagnosed on my birthday 6 years ago it has been an uphill battle with MS, but I am winning so far!!! I do hit speed bumps along the way but my "Home Team" Clark, Thomas, Brayden and Jake (the dog) help me keep going everyday. They are great at giving me kisses when I need them, encouraging words when I am down or just "don't wanna do it", without them I would be a self pitying lump on the ground. My parents are my rocks they can tell when I don't feel good by just looking at me. I am so glad they were able to get a ski condo in Utah. It is nice to have backup even if they are 45 minutes away. That is just my immediate home team, my "Away Team", or those that support me from "afar" also deserve some thanks. Your positive thoughts, phone calls, notes and emails asking "so how's it going" are equally important to me!</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;">
<span style="font-family: 'times new roman', 'new york', times, serif; font-size: 16px;"><span style="font-family: 'Comic Sans MS'; font-size: 9pt;">That is why I am writing this quick note to all of you, as I would love it if you could help support me as I ride 40 miles on this MS Bike Ride on June 29-30 in Logan, Utah. It is going to be “the newest challenge” for me. It is going to be hard but I want to do it--I want to prove that I can! </span></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: 'times new roman', 'new york', times, serif; font-size: 16px;"><span style="font-family: 'Comic Sans MS'; font-size: 9pt;">MS will not stop me, it will just make it harder to accomplish my goals and this is my current goal !!!</span></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;">
<span style="font-family: 'comic sans ms', sans-serif;">I am currently on one of the medications that they speak of below. I am taking Rebif and this year I had tried something, not intentionally I might add. I was not taking my dose as was prescribed. I was doing two shots a week not three. It was going fine for about 4 months. So of course I started thinking maybe I don't need this medication I hate the shots anyway, they burn and I dread them when it is time. Well then the weather got hotter 90 degrees to be exact, and I found that I did need the medication. I am fine when it is snowing or a nice chilly 72 or colder, but then it gets warmer and I have noticed that my concentration just goes out the window. Oh and did I mention I have a very short fuse as well. I know I am screaming too much when the dog runs into his kennel and sits looking at me. I have gotten back on the correct dose and I have much more patience, which makes Jake and the children very happy.</span></div>
<div style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;">
<span style="font-family: Comic Sans MS;"><span style="font-size: 16px;"><span style="font-size: 9pt;">I'm making some momentum, and I'd love your help in making a difference</span></span><span style="font-size: 9pt;">,</span></span><span style="font-family: 'Comic Sans MS'; font-size: 9pt;"> s</span><span style="font-family: 'comic sans ms', sans-serif;">o if you could donate anything even just $5 it would get me closer to my goal of $600. And if you want some lemonade to go with it come on by the house and Brayden will serve you a cup. :) Thank you all very much again for all of your support!</span></div>
<div style="font-size: 10pt;">

<span style="font-family: 'comic sans ms', sans-serif;">Since I was diagnosed on my birthday 6 years ago it has been an uphill battle but I am winning so far. I do hit speed bumps along the way but my home team Clark, Thomas and Brayden help me keep going giving me kisses when I need them, encouraging words when I am down or just "don't wanna do it" Without them I would be a self pitying lump on the ground. My parents are rocks they can tell when I don't feel good but just looking at me I am so glad they were able to get a condo in Utah it is nice to have backup even if they are 45 minutes away. That is just my immediate home team, my away team, all of you who support me and continue to ask "so how's it going" Are important as well. I would love it if you could help support me on this ride it is going to be hard but I want to do it, I want to prove that I can. MS will not stop me it will just make it harder to accomplish my goals and this is my current goal!!!</span></div>

I am fine when it is snowing or a nice chilly 72 or colder. When it gets warmer one conversation at a time thank you very much. My concentration just goes out the window. Oh and did I mention I have a very short fuse as well. I know I am screaming at the kids to much when the dog runs into his kennel.</span></div>

<div style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;">
<span style="font-family: 'comic sans ms', sans-serif;">So if you could donate anything even just $5 it would get me closer to my goal. And if you want some lemonade to go with it come on by the house and Brayden will serve you a cup. :) Thank you.</span></div>

A word from the MS Society...</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;">
Multiple sclerosis has been around for centuries, taking away people's ability to feel, see and even move. Since 1993 (almost 20 years), TEN new disease-modifying drugs have been made available and dozens more are in the pipeline - most recent therapy was just approved on March 27, 2013! Where there was once no hope, there is now huge momentum towards successful treatments and a cure.<br /><br />I'm making some momentum of my own for the cause by riding in the 27th Annual Bike MS, and I'd love your help in making a difference.<br /><br />By clicking on the link below, you can make a secure, tax-deductible donation in any amount for me and my team. You can also send a check in by postal mail to the address below--just put my name in the memo field of the check so it gets credited to my team.<br /><br />Any amount, great or small, helps to make a difference in the lives of people with MS. I appreciate your support and look forward to letting you know how I do!<br /><br />P.S. He has a new to him car and I am making a steering wheel cover. The pattern was found in 'son of stitch and bitch', Wheel of Fire. <br />
<br />
Finding the yarn was a bit of a challenge. I looked in all the local cheap haunts Hobby Lobby, Micheals, Joanne Fabrics. Nada so I checked online and it said the yarn was no longer around. Berroco Suede. I was getting discouraged and trying to figure out another to trade it with. I hadn't hit the two local knitting stores until yesterday. bingo bango bongo they had it at the Needlepoint Joint in Ogden, Utah. Soo excited. So I have two colors close to Seahawk colors and so far I am liking it.<br />

Brady has taken the torch from his brother and is selling the lemonade this year in our front yard. All of the money he earns will be going toward my MS bike Ride in Logan on June 28th. I am trying the shorter distance of 40 miles. Spending the night on friday and riding saturday morning.<br />
He earned $5.40 today not too shabby for 2 qts of lemonade.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17327534103562633994noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15308254.post-76629971163939228952013-04-22T18:04:00.000-06:002013-05-08T16:42:40.970-06:00Heidi Ute hat aka Cabled Chapeau<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hvJED0yCfQo/UXXPfrcSPbI/AAAAAAAAA14/VRVZH8XmBj0/s1600/Photo+on+4-21-13+at+9.21+PM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hvJED0yCfQo/UXXPfrcSPbI/AAAAAAAAA14/VRVZH8XmBj0/s1600/Photo+on+4-21-13+at+9.21+PM.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So this is a hat for me. It is going to have a bill and a strap with hopefully two buttons. I found the pattern from one my Aunt was doing for my cousin she needed help with a part and I looked at the pattern and fell in love. Stitch Nation by Debbie Stoller is where we found it.<br />
I am using the leftover yarn from hubby's hat. If I run out of yarn the plan is to have the strap be red. I am loving it so far. </div>
<div>
I have heard attaching the strap and bill is a little tough. I will document it here.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wF3WgC2bvT0/UXXddRzUy6I/AAAAAAAAA2A/CFTSZ16GGGI/s1600/Photo+on+4-22-13+at+7.00+PM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wF3WgC2bvT0/UXXddRzUy6I/AAAAAAAAA2A/CFTSZ16GGGI/s1600/Photo+on+4-22-13+at+7.00+PM.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
So you will notice the peanut gallery in the back ground I am loving this hat I may even make others with just this design it didn't take much yarn and it is really comfy and stretchy. I was thinking at first I didn't need to do the called for 7 inches I am glad I did now. The first picture was at 5 inches before I started decreasing to close in the top.<br />
<br />
So I have finished the bill. As I was making it I was also reading on Ravelry the comments about the hat and was starting to think it would be harder than it was.<br />
<br />
so this is how I did it: I made a chart to help my very visual mind figure things out and it did.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pRvWTYNTR7c/UXhjjreYjvI/AAAAAAAAA2Q/0DwAKIvReYI/s1600/8679564500_128df14236_b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pRvWTYNTR7c/UXhjjreYjvI/AAAAAAAAA2Q/0DwAKIvReYI/s1600/8679564500_128df14236_b.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
You do just need to add three stitches to each row after you do the turn at 25 as you start it. When you do the turn make sure to slip the next stitch with the yarn on the opposing side; if knitting the next row have the yarn behind. If purling the next row have the yarn in front. Slip the stitch and then turn your knitting to go the same way you just came. It makes shorter rows but it increases them to make the bill wider. It seems confusing but makes sense when you get started on it. Hope you can read the chart and it helps. Remember when casting off to leave a large tail as you can use this to seal in the lid or whatever up are using for the bill.<br />
<br />
This the piece blocked.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SV6jW4JZvss/UXr8_yqbOSI/AAAAAAAAA2g/MTfl_xNdNGQ/s1600/8684681348_3f896bf181_b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SV6jW4JZvss/UXr8_yqbOSI/AAAAAAAAA2g/MTfl_xNdNGQ/s1600/8684681348_3f896bf181_b.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This is it after blocking and then formed to measure for the bill. I will be using so craft foam sheets. Cutting a little smaller than the piece.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-h8k4lL3Fdjc/UXr9IHPTZ-I/AAAAAAAAA2o/3xi5DadQcD4/s1600/8684791416_473d9b5cb9_b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-h8k4lL3Fdjc/UXr9IHPTZ-I/AAAAAAAAA2o/3xi5DadQcD4/s1600/8684791416_473d9b5cb9_b.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
So I have the foam piece inside and now I need to figure out how to attach it to the hat... hmm<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-h4gpaD1AOOg/UXsWEPWv5kI/AAAAAAAAA24/80eIaMuwPfw/s1600/8683813691_25e021d6c2_b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-h4gpaD1AOOg/UXsWEPWv5kI/AAAAAAAAA24/80eIaMuwPfw/s1600/8683813691_25e021d6c2_b.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
so even though the brim was cut correctly that doesn't actually mean I put it in right. I ended up twisting it around so that the straight piece actually had the seam not the portion that will be to the outside. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have since attached the hat to the bill along the bottom of the cap. I was able to find some buttons today and will be sewing them on shortly.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Woohoo all done. I love it the bill adding needed my son so that I could sew it on on with his head inside. He was nervous but I didn't stab him. :) loving the way it looks.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VZPmn9uJ8o8/UYhLvsoLeDI/AAAAAAAAA3o/IS8nw_i3Shw/s1600/Photo+on+5-6-13+at+5.58+PM+%232.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VZPmn9uJ8o8/UYhLvsoLeDI/AAAAAAAAA3o/IS8nw_i3Shw/s1600/Photo+on+5-6-13+at+5.58+PM+%232.jpg" height="133" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It is better with hair down or at least braids I think.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jDXJrvonqsE/UYrUYQCT8KI/AAAAAAAAA4A/G6IDUmSamz8/s1600/Photo+on+5-8-13+at+4.34+PM+%232.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jDXJrvonqsE/UYrUYQCT8KI/AAAAAAAAA4A/G6IDUmSamz8/s1600/Photo+on+5-8-13+at+4.34+PM+%232.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So now I need to get one of the pieces to my Aunt so she can finish my cousins too. Hopefully she </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
hasn't lost too much motivation.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

That was the busiest that I have ever seen the Hooper post office. Yeah good for them.<br />
<br />
I was able to finish Clark's hat while I watched the coverage of the bombing of the Boston Marathon, was able to get ahold of friends in the area and others that run marathons and they were all OK.<br />
<br />
His hat is fun. Red and black for the Ute games. It is a bit big but he should just grow out his hair oh yeah that won't happen. :) <br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I love the fact that the hat has a hem on the interior it covers up the extra strings and it also made a really cute edge with the yarn over. The snowflake chart wasn't that hard to follow. i did have to adjust my needle size since I used a much larger yarn than called for. I was able to do the swatch and then figure out the math.<br />
<br />
Thank you HATS On. I just hope this one lasts as long as my other one did. 12 years not to shabby.<br />
<br />
Ski season has ended again and now we are on to the summer chapter. It is looking like baseball is in the mix for Thomas this year. I will continue their swimming lessons as well. It helps so much with muscle tone on their tall growing bodies.<br />
<br />
Knitting is going to be in the mix a ton as well. I am wanting to do some dying but that may need to wait one more year. We shall see. As Brady put it mom now that you don't have to work both jobs you can knit all the time.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LDuvyky8kg8/UWTZnKxgJOI/AAAAAAAAA1o/wkNkZtHemmA/s1600/2013-04-09" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LDuvyky8kg8/UWTZnKxgJOI/AAAAAAAAA1o/wkNkZtHemmA/s1600/2013-04-09" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
practicing pictures this was exactly a year ago, the boys hiking with the grandparents and uncle and cousin. Thomas is now the same height as gramma. And it doesn't look like he is stopping anytime soon.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We did do a ton of skiing this year Thomas had a <a href="http://www.skiutah.com/winter/deals/deals/passports">sixth grade passpor</a>t so did one of our cousins and a family friend. We made it to Brighton, Solitude, Snowbasin, Eagle Mountain, Canyons, Deer Valley and of course Alta. It was great fun. Brady finally figured out what all the skateboards were that people used at other resorts. (snowboards) He was also able to understand that he can ski anywhere he doesn't need to be afraid. They did have a better understanding though when we went with the cousins that they can be a little more aggressive, the cousins are the same age and ski racers at Brighton, they have NO FEAR.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
More updates more frequently Have a fun day.</div>

So the shawl is done it ended up being shorter than I thought it would be and a little sneezier lots of little floaties around. Overall though I do like it. There is a picot edge which took a little time but I like the overall effect. I shall be using it in other projects. Once I figure out how to block it it will be all done.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gQd0I3qa_Ac/UCxSR9ewzgI/AAAAAAAAA0o/pmap8YIu-h8/s1600/IMAG0572.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="191" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gQd0I3qa_Ac/UCxSR9ewzgI/AAAAAAAAA0o/pmap8YIu-h8/s320/IMAG0572.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Part 3 <br />
I am on row 62 just more of the same at this point. I have a four section repeat with 130 stitches and then I start the Branching Lace. Which looks like fun. I did look into the yarn over I am doing it right knitwise you take the yarn after the knit stitch and bring it to the front like you are going to pearl, then you put it back in the back so as to start a knit stitch you are basically wrapping the needle. In this manner you are increasing a stitch or in my case replacing the stitch k2tog. (knit two together)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3UA1DnqVmRs/T_4CXIQSZHI/AAAAAAAAA0U/H3v5ZHpQZEY/s1600/IMAG0563.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="191" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3UA1DnqVmRs/T_4CXIQSZHI/AAAAAAAAA0U/H3v5ZHpQZEY/s320/IMAG0563.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Part 2 <br />
I have now made it to row fifty and the holes are looking bigger on their own guess that happens when they have room to spread out 67 stitches compared to 31 in the beginning. More knitting today since it will be 102 I will be staying inside and staying cool.<br />
<br />
Part 1<br />
So this is a first for me I am knitting with a group, granted it is a virtual group, but we can learn together. The group is through Ravelry: Beginning Lace Knitters. We are knitting the Afternoon Tea Shawl By: Helen Stewart from Knitty <br />
<br />
I am learn how to do lace it is an interesting process with yarn overs and knit 2 togethers. I am still not sure if I am doing the yarn over properly my holes look a little small. I am using some of the stash yarn that I got from my adoring Aunt who was thinning her stash. Woohoo. So far so good I am on row 24 and this is what we have so far.<br />

Our new neighbors across the street just had a surprise birth they weren't due for 10 more weeks. So I also used some of my cute girly yarn and made them a little one too.<br />

<br />
So in this blog we have our Egg pickin' apron. This is a mommy design from two different patterns I liked. The first was for a halter top, the second was for a cute dress that has a pocket all away around the bottom. I had received some fun yarn from a girlfriend that was moving to Florida. She wanted to get rid of her stash it is cute just not baby soft. This apron will be shipped to my cousins daughters on the farm. The pockets will be perfect for treasures they find our eggs that need to be brought into the house.<br />
<br />
The second is the Sophia Chapeau. This hat was made for a toothbrush holder that was made from pottery, gorgeous. Thank you Amy. Use it every day. I have actually made two hats one ended up being small so it is for little sister or her Mandy doll. I learned how to do an I-cord with this design that is the center of the flower. I hope Miss Sophia likes it.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17327534103562633994noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15308254.post-77563785427120833822012-06-27T17:15:00.001-06:002012-06-27T20:52:38.206-06:00more Halloween 2011<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Brady needed a griffindor scarf to go along with his new glasses that we had just gotten. Tom originally was a Slytherin but for actually trick or treating he wanted something more grown up. Think Colin Creevey meets the New sheriff in townAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17327534103562633994noreply@blogger.com0
